Just Call Me Martha Stacey

I love to entertain.  I’m so glad that I married a man who can roll with my random urges to entertain for no reason at all!

I love the idea of food station parties.  I like the simplicity of prepping ingredients and then laying them all out for my guests to assemble their own meal or dessert…way less stress for me!  And better for the guests, who get their food their way!

My sister’s bridesmaids and I served a yogurt bar at her bridal shower back in August because we were doing a brunch theme.  A waffle bar would have fit right in!  The craft paper with the different steps written out is cute too!

I love caramel apples…I was very disappointed when the local Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory shut down.  I think this would be a great idea for a fall party or Thanksgiving dessert.

A hot chocolate party would be the perfect end for a winter skating party.  T-bug has a December birthday, so this could be a birthday party idea for him when he’s older.

I love chocolate.  In fact, I’ve got deep-dish brownies in the oven right now.  So what better theme for my pinspirations this week?

Disclaimer:  I haven’t actually tried any of these recipes…but they look delicious!

Doesn’t this cake look just amazing?  Hubby just looked over my shoulder and was very disappointed when I said I wasn’t making it for him.  :)  I don’t even want to think about how many Reese’s Cups I’d have to buy to make this…taking into account the need for quality control testing, of course!

I actually bought the ingredients to buy these brownies once.  Then I ate the Twix bars.  Better luck next time.

I would rather make cupcakes over a cake anytime.  It’s probably because of my inability to decorate cakes but I can do cupcakes.  And I do love me some Snickers bars.  Someone I know is turning 30 this year…perhaps someone should make them for her birthday!

Well, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  Hubby has decided that we will stay in to celebrate the “holiday” this year so I’m tasked with the job of coming up with a fantastic menu to make for him.  I have some ideas and new recipes I want to try…I guess I should have a backup pizza in the freezer just in case it doesn’t work out!

In light of the romantic holiday coming up, here are some ideas to inspire you!

Honestly, I’d probably never do this because my hubby would probably look at me like I’m crazy.  I do like how they look like real tickets and if I were going to make a coupon book for him, I’d make it full of coupons for an hour of shared video gaming time.  He’d LOVE that!

Hubby and I have a hard time deciding what to do for our dates, so I’m going to do this…when I get around to it.  I’ve already bought the large popsicle sticks and have plenty of glass jars.  I like how the sticks are painted different colours to signify dates that involve more or less money.  Now it’s just a matter of actually being creative enough to think of enough date ideas to fill the jar!

This is along the same line…it’s a scrapbook album with a year’s worth of dates.  The author has some great ideas for stay-at-home dates, which are all practically free after the munchkins are in bed.  I’ve seen another idea on Pinterest that includes money in envelopes to pay for each date.  How awesome would that be?  Perhaps an idea for my payroll deduction savings bond money next year!

With a new baby in the house, this will probably be a year for “at-home” dates in our household so these are some good ideas to get us started!

The most wonderful sports weekend of the year is rapidly approaching…SUPERBOWL SUNDAY!!!

Ever since I’ve had a place of my own, I’ve hosted a Superbowl party.  My Indianapolis Colts aren’t playing in it this year (it’s a rebuilding year…and we’ve done a darn good job!) which makes me a MUCH more relaxed hostesses!  I can cater to my guests without worrying about wanting to see every minute of play and every slow-motion replay!

Usually, I prepare several hot appetizers, dessert and beverages for my guests.  It takes me the better part of Sunday afternoon (and some of Saturday) to get ready.

This year, we have a six-week old in the house, so I’m taking the easy way out.  Hubby is bringing home pizza dough from work and I bought the pizza toppings to make pizza at home (so it’s not totally the easy way out…when I was pregnant with Munchkin #1, I really cheated and just ordered delivery!).

Here are some Superbowl-themed pinspirations to inspire your own party…

My dessert this year is going to be chocolate cupcakes, just like these ones!

I made these pretzel dogs last year and they were amazing!  I will admit, it’s a long process to make these, but since I had everything else prepped ahead of time, I was able to do them.  The serving plate holding them was the first one to be empty!

I don’t go all out and decorate because for me, it’s all about the food and the game, but these are some cute printable decorations if you are that motivated.  Maybe next year, I will be.

I’m excited to jump back into my Pinspirations posts…tune in every Thursday to see cuteness from around the Internet!

This week, I’m featuring some upcycled tin cans and it makes me wish I wasn’t so quick to recycle my tin cans once they come out of the pantry.

Our local Walmart sells jute rope for $2/roll and I’m definitely going to try this project soon.  I expect it will be only slightly less tedious than the diaper wipes box I recently covered with the same rope…that project will be featured soon!

If I hadn’t just reorganized our mini office space and created a new mail system for myself, I would definitely be tempted to find some big coffee cans to make “in” and “out” buckets.

I love this idea, especially for a fun summer barbecue.  It’s a utensil holder, beverage label and place card all in one!  I think a project like this will make an appearance at birthday parties for my munchkins in the future.
